You are a brand
SKINCARE AND CREATING A PERSONAL BRAND
Let’s do some role-playing. Close your eyes and picture yourself as a product. Imagine everyone else in the world is a product also. Now imagine what you would like your product to look like? How would you like it presented? What image do you think will best optimize your success? What clothes are you wearing? What does your hair look like and what does your face look like? How does your skin look? Picture the absolute best you in every aspect!
In so many interactions throughout our lives, in one way or another we are selling ourselves. The most obvious example of this is during a job interview. But, did you ever give thought to the friends we are trying to make? The partners we are seeking? The deals we are trying to make?
For a sale of any sort, to sell well, we must present well. Your hair, your clothes and of course your face. This is because your face is what people are paying the most attention to. What does your face say about you? What do you want it to say about you?
Your face is your first impression like the storefront of a retail shop or the landing page of a website. It’s human nature to judge a book by its cover until further evidence is shown. So you have to put your best face forward.
Whether we like it or not, if we don’t look after our skin many people we interact with will jump to conclusions and, like we mentioned above, ‘judge a book by it’s cover’. If we don’t give our skin the attention it deserves this can communicate to some a lack of self-care and organization.
Before going for that interview, before that appointment with a potential client, before asking your crush out for a date, take a moment to think about your skin. Ask yourself what message you’ll give with your first impression, even before your first “Hello.”
A lot of success in our lives comes down to preparation. Imagine you are going for a job interview next week. Would you start preparing now or you would wait and prepare one day prior to the interview? I know half of you are shrugging your shoulders admitting to yourselves “I would crush it all in one day!” However, if you start preparing now you’ll be much better prepared for everything that may be thrown at you. We are all more capable and effective when we are well prepared and well organized.
And the same applies to skincare! If we are well prepared and organized with a well thought out skincare routine then we’ll always be ready to put our best selves forward. How many times have you had to jump to attention and rush around to try and fix up your appearance? It’s like waiting for your teeth to get holes in them before deciding to use toothpaste. It’s too late and you would need some expensive operations to fix what would have been a perfectly healthy set of teeth. It’s the same situation with our skin. If we take care of our skin often, then our skin will take care of us and we won’t find ourselves rushing to the restroom for a last-minute makeover. So have a think about your skincare routine and how just a little more organization could prove to be priceless.
You can make your personal brand fabulous. It all starts with you, and one area that can certainly help is by nurturing and nourishing your skin. Think about the future and what returns your skin can bring you. Think about yourself in the next 20 years, how would you look? If you were a brand, would you still be as marketable? If you want to create a great personal brand, make it a point to start looking after your skin as if it were your best asset!
